Subdivision
Add triangle mesh detail with Simple and Loop subdivision.
Subdivision is an Atlas component that refines a CoreObject triangle mesh. It is useful when a surface needs more vertices for Cloth or Softbody deformation.
Add detail in the editor
Select the mesh and add Subdivision from the Inspector. Set levels to the number of refinement passes and choose a scheme:
- Simple splits triangles while preserving the original surface shape.
- Loop refines and smooths the surface, which can soften corners and change the silhouette.
Start with one level. Each pass splits a triangle into four, so two levels produce sixteen times the original triangle count. A level of 0 keeps the source mesh.
Prepare physics geometry
Finalize subdivision before generating soft-body tetrahedra or starting cloth simulation. Physics needs the refined mesh, and the tetrahedral cache must match the final geometry and scale.
Subdivision operates on the mesh when initialized. It is not a camera-distance level-of-detail system. Check both the visual result and simulation cost before adding more levels.
The declared Subdivision and SubdivisionScheme pages list the component fields. Use the editor to author the component.
